Small Business Saturday - Topanien Global Gifts
In 1989, Topanien Global Gifts was started by Nadine; mother, wife, Oregonian, avid skier and gardener. The business thrived and grew to be one ever unique physical store and website.
With just 4-5 employees things get especially crazy during the busy holiday season. Sword play with tree picks is not unheard of. Don’t worry though. We’ll get ourselves, Chloe (manager/blonde) and Nadine (owner/brunette) under control before –

November Quote – change

11 Nov

“There are two mistakes one can make along the road… …not going all the way, and not starting.” -Buddha

Change is inevitable and as the owner of a small business I try to maintain Topanien Global Gifts fresh and invigorated. Our current big change or ‘start’ is our new website. I knew that we could improve our site for ourselves and for our customers but needed help getting there. Shannon Zilka is a web designer and a computer programmer living right in our SW Portland neighborhood. She rides her bike all over Portland and plays a mean violin. Now, she is deep into Topanien Global Gifts culture as she works with us to fine tune our new website.

Shannon Zilka, web designer Thanks Shannon. – Nadine, owner of Topanien Global Gifts

Barfboro – Campaign Visits Multnomah Village

27 Aug

The Annual Multnomah Day was celebrated this August with the parade, live entertainment, music, yummy food, warm sunshine, lots of neighbors and a bit of learning thrown in. The Barfboro Mobile and No-Cigarette Man joined us with a strong anti-smoking message as they rolled and marched through the Village and past Topanien Global Gifts. Glad to have them. http://www.topanien.com/

Deer Park Monastery – breathe

29 Jul

Nadine, owner of Topanien Global Gifts, takes a break from work with her husband at a Deer Park Monastery retreat. “We spend a lot of time in walking meditation, quiet, no cell phone, no computer, lots of outdoor time and rest.” says Nadine “I leave Topanien Global Gifts in the very capable hands of our store manager, Alissa, and have no worries.”

Oaxaca & the Torpedo Balloon

16 Jul

You can’t stop yourself from tearing after the ‘torpedo balloons’ in the zocalo of Oaxaca, Mexico. Everyone is popping them off and chasing them round. Look up, look out and watch them fly. Buy one for a few pesos and join the fun. – Nadine, owner of Topanien Global Gifts on a buying trip in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Oaxaca, Mexico – Womens Shoes

14 Jul

heelsI can’t wear high heals at home and I sure can’t travel in a pair. Mexican woman put me to shame. In a pair of old running shoes or, even if I splurge on a pair of new white ‘tennis’ tennis shoes, I can’t hold a candle to the well shod feet of the Mexican women.
